Amy finds the ideal career change at Bass Coast Health

News

Amy Brusamarello had risen through the ranks of hardware chain Bunnings when she seized the chance to change career and further her skills by joining Bass Coast Health (BCH).

BCH is the sub-regional health service for the Bass Coast and South Gippsland shires, with sites at Wonthaggi Hospital, San Remo and the Phillip Island Health Hub at Cowes.

Amy has joined the Reception and Administrative Support team and plays a pivotal role, rostering the clerical support staff for Acute, Sub-Acute, Theatre, Midwifery, Reception and Switchboard.

Amy also interviews prospective Ward Clerk staff and organises training for new staff keen to step up into these vital roles.

“I wasn’t going to leave Bunnings for just any job. I had to have a career path where I knew I could grow and develop as well. Now I’m in my mid-thirties and can hopefully have a whole new career here as well,” she said.

“I enjoy it. It’s all new, I’m learning a lot and I’m given opportunities to grow and do things that I’ve never done before. I used to roster a team of 15 and now I’m rostering a much larger team.

“If you’re looking for a career change, Bass Coast Health is a great workplace. Everyone is really friendly and supportive, and they make you feel comfortable.”

Amy worked with Bunnings at Cranbourne for 8 years and then Bunnings at Wonthaggi for 11 years. She started on the registers and progressed her way through the ranks, working on the service desk, training new team members, preparing special orders, managed the safety role and managed an administration team of 15 staff.

“I’ve lived in the area for 12 years and working in the community I live in is rewarding,” she said.
