Bass Coast Health helps to break down social isolation

News

Bass Coast Health (BCH) is helping isolated people in the community come together and conquer the negative impacts that social isolation can have on one’s mental and physical health.

During Social Inclusion Week from 18-26 November, BCH is raising awareness of its Social Support Group that brings people together for activities, outing and social events.

Team Coordinator Cathy Smyth said, “Feeling socially isolated can lead to increased risk of depression and also heart disease due to the additional stress that people experience when they feel isolated.

“Not everyone has the support of family and friends, particularly close by, but by joining our Social Support Group, eligible people can meet like-minded individuals and enjoy the lovely sensation that a sense of belonging brings.”

The group is supported by our staff and transport is available.

Social Support Group is available to people under the care of My Aged Care, on My Aged Care Home Care Packages and NDIS Clients. We also have a group especially for men.
