Celebrating our exceptional Allied Health team

News

Bass Coast Health (BCH) is proud to celebrate the outstanding contributions of its Allied Health professionals on Allied Health Professions Day on 14 October. Their expertise supports patients and the community across Bass Coast and South Gippsland.

BCH’s Allied Health team spans Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Dietetics, Social Work and Allied Health Assistants - a group dedicated to helping patients regain independence and wellbeing every day.

The health service recently welcomed Daniel Baker as its new Allied Health Director, who will lead and support this passionate group of professionals.

“Our Allied Health staff are crucial in supporting quality of life for consumers of all age groups,” Daniel said.

“They are involved in all aspects of care including preventative care, capability development, rehabilitation and palliation. This can include  supporting a stroke patient through rehabilitation or working with a child to develop vital skills. Their impact is life-changing, and I am honoured to lead such a passionate and skilled team.”

BCH Allied Health professionals work in partnership with clinical teams across inpatient, outpatient and community services. Their work takes place at BCH’s Wonthaggi and Phillip Island sites, including the state-of-the-art expanded Wonthaggi Hospital and the Phillip Island Community Hospital at Cowes, in the consulting suites, gymnasium and new Rotary Rehabilitation Courtyard. The courtyard enables outdoor rehabilitation sessions in settings that reflect scenarios patients would encounter in society, such as stairs, uneven surfaces and sand.

In addition to offering diverse clinical experiences, BCH provides Allied Health staff with access to professional development through its Learning and Development team.

“Our staff are committed not only to excellent patient care, but also to supporting each other as colleagues,” Daniel said.

“It’s a workplace where collaboration, growth and compassion come together.”
