If your child is experiencing challenges with dressing, toileting, cleaning their teeth and the other tasks of daily living, they could benefit from a new service at Bass Coast Health (BCH).
Paediatric Occupational Therapist Jade Potter has joined the team and works with children aged up to 12 years with delays in the development of their fine motor skills, and difficulties with sensory processing and regulating their emotions.
“This could include challenges with manipulating small toys, opening containers, eating with cutlery, coordination and spatial awareness,” she said.
Jade offers individual sessions at Wonthaggi Hospital and the Phillip Island Community Hospital, as well as small group sessions with Speech Pathologists at Wonthaggi Hospital. During these sessions, young children come together to learn about language and skills for preparing for school, such as pre-literacy education, learning how to wait and using pencils.
Jade also works with local kindergartens to screen for children who would benefit from allied health support.
To access Paediatric Occupational Therapy, parents can self-refer their children or obtain a referral from their General Practitioner.
