Golfers tee off for defibrillator

A golf event organised by Phillip Island business Ambling Along Tours and Transfers raised $11,500 for maternity services at Bass Coast Health (BCH).

The funds enabled the purchase of a defibrillator for the maternity ward at Wonthaggi Hospital, to be used to resuscitate a person during a cardiac emergency.

Sean and Kelly Ambler of Ambling Along organised the fundraising event at Phillip Island Golf Club, which was attended by 130 golfers and received extensive support from local businesses.

“I know how important funding is to a public hospital,” said Kelly, who works with the Facilities team at BCH.

“I’ve got young children and had my youngest child at Wonthaggi Hospital, so I know how important the service is to the local community.”

BCH Interim CEO Simone Alexander said the maternity team and the broader health service were grateful for the donation.

“As a public health service, we’re so fortunate to have people like Kelly and Sean who are willing to organise major fundraisers that double as fantastic community events,” she said.

“We also appreciate the fact that this event was so well supported – not only by the people who participated but also the businesses that so willingly donated.

“On behalf of everyone at BCH, I’d like to thank Kelly and Sean, the golfers and all the businesses that gave to make this day such a success.”
