Hospital expansion looks stunning, whichever way you look at it

News

The Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion project is closer to bringing even more health services to the community.

The hospital expansion will offer a new emergency department, a 32-bed paediatric and surgical ward, three new operating theatres and a procedure room, a Central Sterilising and Supply (CSSD) Department and Medical Imaging.

It is hoped the doors will open around October 2022. Further concrete pours and structural steelwork are being undertaken, ahead of preliminary building works to enable wall cladding to be done.

The community may see the walls go up sometime in January 2022. Inside the building, piping and air-conditioner ducting has been undertaken on level one. The Central Energy Plant building is progressing well at the rear of the hospital and will house large generators that can power the hospital should mains electricity be lost. A road leading from Baillieu Street West to the new hospital has been completed to provide ambulance and police access. A group of clinicians and facilities team members from BCH are working through the selection of furniture, fittings and information technology for the new hospital.
