Max, the resident Puppy, attracts smiles at Kirrak House Residential Aged Care Service

A four-legged friend is already bringing joy to the residents of Kirrak House Residential Aged Care Service after moving in recently.

Max the Golden Retriever pup is now living at Kirrak House, part of Wonthaggi Hospital, with his presence already improving residents’ wellbeing.

Rebecca Grant, Acting Operations Director at Bass Coast Health (BCH), which operates Kirrak House, said Max will be a new friend for residents, visitors and staff.

“Companion dogs have proven to be valuable for diversional therapy in residential aged care centres, particularly in helping to reduce depression and anxiety among residents,” she said.

“Based on the feedback during his short time thus far, Max is already making a positive impact and is enhancing everyone who lives and works at Kirrak House.

“He is already an amazing talking point for residents and visitors.”
