Patients give thumbs-up to care at Bass Coast Health

News

Bass Coast Health (BCH) staff are striving hard to give patients and consumers the best possible care, from inpatients at Wonthaggi Hospital to consumers of our Allied Health services at Phillip Island Health Hub.

April 25-29 was Patient Experience Week and to mark the occasion, we acknowledge that everyone at BCH has a role to play in ensuring our patients and consumers have a positive experience.

This includes every staff member, such as nurses and doctors who provide medical attention to our patients, porters who move patients around Wonthaggi Hospital to wherever they need care, and cleaners who keep our facilities hygienic and safe.

Behind the scenes, kitchen staff are enhancing our patients’ stay by providing quality meals and administration staff are ensuring the necessary paperwork is complete to ensure patients’ surgery and appointments run smoothly.

To mark Patient Experience Week, we spoke to some of our patients about their stay with us.

Beverley Arnott was in the Acute Ward at Wonthaggi Hospital and said she had always liked our staff, given her most recent stay with us was not her first.

"The staff are always brilliant. I've got confidence in them because they are attentive and caring. I feel like I'm in safe hands here," she said.

Fenella King was also in our Acute Ward, recovering from surgery. She is familiar with Wonthaggi Hospital, as she is a Theatre Nurse with us, and appreciated the opportunity to see the surgical process from a patient's perspective.

"Everybody has been kind and supportive. I've had great care and help, from the theatre and ward nurses, to the physiotherapist," she said.

Patient experience and feedback shapes the way we deliver services to make the experience better for patients in the future.

Patients can provide feedback via the independent not-for-profit organisation, CareOpinion Australia. They can do this safely and anonymously online at: https://www.careopinion.org.au/tellyourstory

They can also provide feedback by phoning our Quality department on (03) 5671 3365 or via email quality@basscoasthealth.org.au
