Perioperative Nurses help to transform lives

News

Perioperative Nurses Week from 9-15 November is a time to reflect on the incredible impact our qualified and expert Perioperative team make on the Bass Coast and South Gippsland community.

These team members are helping to give local residents enhanced quality of life through surgeries such as joint replacements in the state-of-the-art theatres at Wonthaggi Hospital.

These hard-working team members support patients throughout their surgical journey. This begins with visits to the Elective Surgery Access Unit at Wonthaggi Hospital where the team members discuss the procedure with patients and ensure their current health is suitable for the procedure.

These team members also welcome patients to Theatre, helping them to relax, assisting with their surgery and monitoring patients following surgery.

Acting Perioperative Services Manager at BCH, Trish Pearson, said Perioperative Nurses Week was a time to recognise the contribution these diverse team members make to healthcare.

“This week is a reminder to acknowledge not just the tasks they perform but the heart and passion they bring to their work,” she said.

“They provide excellent, specialised care to patients during a time when they are at their most vulnerable.”

The theme of the week is S.T.A.R.S. – Scrub/Scout, Technicians, Anaesthetics, Recovery and Support – recognising the variety of work these team members perform.
