Social adventures for Seniors with Bass Coast Health

News

If you’re feeling isolated, you’re invited to join the Bass Coast Health Social Support Group.

The group brings people together for activities, outings and social events to help combat the negative impacts of loneliness.

BCH Interim CEO Simone Alexander said the group is ideal for people who do not have the support of family and friends, especially nearby.

“Through our Social Support Group, people get to meet new friends, often with similar backgrounds and interests, all while enjoying the excitement of new experiences and visiting new places,” she said.

Regular outings include trips to artists’ studios and galleries, eateries, walks and cultural discoveries, plus a monthly Big Day Out to locations further afield. Recent excursions have been to McClelland Sculpture Park at Langwarrin, an aviation museum at Moorabbin and a Christmas in July lunch at Sassafras.

Other activities include arts and crafts and indoor sports in local venues. There is also a group especially for men. Activities are based on the interests of group attendees.

Social Support Group is funded under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). To be eligible you must be aged 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people).

Staff support group members and transport is available to and from your home across Bass Coast.
