Social Support Group celebrates Lyn’s 100th birthday

The Social Support Group at Bayside Health’s Wonthaggi Hospital had the privilege of celebrating the 100th birthday of member Lyn.

A group member for eight years, Lyn’s relished the opportunities to meet other people and enjoy outings and activities, such as word games, snooker/pool, mini golf and reconnecting with friends.

In fact, Lyn and another group member were once part of the same local bushwalking club and reconnected through the program - a beautiful full-circle moment.

To mark Lyn’s 100th birthday, the group’s Wednesday Ladies Group celebrated in style at a Mirboo North venue.

The Social Support Groups at Bayside Health Regional offer a wide range of activities to support social connection, independence and wellbeing in our community, said Bayside Health Regional CEO Louise Sparkes.

“From group outings to individual sessions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Participating in the groups helps people to overcome barriers to social isolation, and enjoy the wellbeing benefits that come from connecting with like-minded, supportive friends,” she said.

People wishing to participate can phone the Social Support Team at Bass Coast on 5671 9225. There’s also a Planned Activity Group based at Korumburra Hospital. You can find out more by phoning Kathryn Prusa, Social Support Coordinator, on 5654 2741 or email kathryn.prusa@gshs.com.au
