Volunteers help keep Bass Coast healthy

This National Volunteer Week, Bass Coast Health (BCH) wishes to acknowledge the contribution of our valuable Volunteers.

Their extensive service, across many roles, helps our community to access public healthcare, both in Bass Coast and further afield.

BCH Interim CEO Simone Alexander said the service of around 160 Volunteers was valued by BCH Board, Executive, staff and our consumers.

“From helping in reception, wayfinding and driving patients to appointments, gardening, and visiting patients and aged care residents, they are important members of our team here at Bass Coast Health,” she said.

“They also take part in our Community Advisory Committee, working with us to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community and enhancing our level of care. It’s a truly remarkable gift for the organisation to have so many dedicated Volunteers.

“We’re also fortunate to have Volunteers across five Auxiliaries: Inverloch Art Show Auxiliary, Inverloch Fundraising Auxiliary, BCH Ladies Auxiliary, San Remo Opportunity Shop Auxiliary and the Phillip Island Health Hub Auxiliary. They hold community events, sort and sell goods, conduct raffles and do other amazing work to raise funds so we can purchase medical equipment that benefits our patients.

“These are wonderful people, giving so freely of their time to help others. Individually they make a difference. Together they achieve so much.”

Margie Robinson volunteers as a Concierge in reception at Wonthaggi Hospital, greeting members of the public and helping them to find the service they need.

“I enjoy meeting the nice people who come in and just helping people. It makes you feel really good,” she said.

Faye Tuchtan volunteers in wayfinding and administration at Wonthaggi Hospital, and has previously volunteered with our Community Advisory Committee.

“Volunteering gives me a purpose and I enjoy interacting with staff and patients,” she said.
